About Jane Knapp

My time is divided between Bath in south west England and the Maritime Alps of Italy where the mountains opposite my studio are an inspiration.

My Fine Art skills have been the perfect grounding for my commercial career which has taken me through painting theatrical stage sets, large scale murals, architectural restoration of specialist paint effects, historically accurate floor coverings and lighting design. My paintings are influenced by a sense of energy that I see in the dramatic landscape and natural environment around me. My recent works show an influence of the mid 20th Century English ‘St. Ives School’, based in coastal Cornwall, and a pre-occupation with form, movement and the emotive power of colour.

In the abstract paintings, the elements of rock and water, have been developed into compositions that reflect the sculptural shapes of water-worn boulders. These forms, combined with my interest in ancient neolithic sites, are particularly evident in , "The treasures of Monviso" which tells a story of neolithic jadeite axes from Monviso and “The Shamen “ which is about Hagar Qim on the island of Malta.
